The origin
"Is that a painting?"
That's what the first person to see our prototype said. Not "is that a fish tank?" Not "where are the cords?" Just — is that a painting?
That reaction is what we've been chasing ever since. We started Kraken because we loved the idea of a wall-mounted aquarium but couldn't find one that didn't look like a piece of equipment. Every option on the market had visible hardware, surface-mounted conduit, or required a contractor to make it look halfway decent.
So we built our own. Marine-grade acrylic. Engineered bracket system. In-wall wire concealment as standard. Snap-on frames you can swap in minutes. And a nationwide installer network so you never have to figure any of it out yourself.
The Technology
Every component was designed from scratch. Nothing was borrowed from the aquarium industry.
Marine-Grade Acrylic
Cast acrylic panels in three thickness variants — 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" — selected by tank size and water volume. Optically clear, UV-stable, and rated for saltwater.
Snap-On Frame System
3D-printed frames in four styles that snap onto the tank perimeter without tools. Swap your look in minutes. Trade in old frames for 30% store credit.
SmartFrame (Patent Pending)
Built-in power strip, Bluetooth speakers, bass-reactive LED lighting, and full app control — all integrated into the frame profile. No external devices.

The Problem
Frustrated by the gap between high-end aquarium design and the reality of visible cords, ugly hardware, and complicated installs, the founders set out to build something different.
First Prototype
The first wall-mounted acrylic tank with an in-wall wire routing system was installed in a private residence. The reaction from guests was immediate: "Is that a painting?"
Snap-On Frame System
The 3D-printed snap-on frame system launched, allowing customers to swap frame styles without tools or reinstallation. The trade-in program followed.
SmartFrame Patent Filed
The SmartFrame system — built-in power strip, Bluetooth speakers, bass-reactive LED lighting, and app control — was developed and a patent application filed.
Nationwide Launch
Kraken Wall Aquariums launches to the public with a certified installer network covering all 50 states and four tank sizes from the Tide to the Kraken.
